High Stake Poker Online
High Stake Poker
Internet gambling, in general, and online poker, in particular, have one thing in common: the people involved in this activity are miles apart, when it comes to the stakes.
And let’s concentrate on online poker for a bit: there are loads of people who play at the micro stakes. You will never find the smallest of stakes with no open tables. Over the past few years there was a huge wave of people who wanted to start playing online poker, so, naturally, the lower stakes were filled up with beginners who did not want to risk their hard earned cash by playing directly at the high stakes. They started low, so they could learn their way up. The professional players, who are on the other end of our scale, play on the highest of stakes, as you would imagine. So there are two distinct worlds, two different sides to the same game. And with such a large difference between the stakes, it’s like you’re playing a whole different game. No matter what stakes you play, you can now get the oppertunity to get a poker sponsorship by joining buyinbank.com. All players earn points when they play online poker and these points can be used as buyin for poker tournaments all over the world. Buy-in Bank are also giving away free poker sponsorship packages in their poker league where you can qualify absolute free and new members also get a welcome package with free poker shirt and cap. To get started you can get 1000 sponsor points for free by using the Buy-in Bank bonus code “pokerrewardsclub”.

We’re going to focus on high stakes poker for a bit. How is it played, who plays it and where do they play it.
Offline
High stakes poker tournaments are being held all over the world, and the players are among the richest and the most famous people in the world, as well as the very best professional poker players. While some of the tournaments are being televised, or transmitted over the internet, most of them happen behind closed doors, and the only things we can hear are rumors that start appearing after the games themselves. We’re talking about the games between billionaires, where huge amounts are being passed from one to the other, and where they don’t even bother to play for thousand dollar blinds. You’ve all probably heard of such games, where billionaires such as Russian mogul Roman Abramovici reportedly lost a $500,000 yacht during a poker game.
Generally speaking, high stakes real live poker games are divided into two distinct types: poker cash games, which are more wide spread throughout the Las Vegas casinos and exclusive casinos and venues worldwide, and which produce some of the largest winnings in the game, and high stakes poker tournaments, which are more open to the general public, and which pay out just as much. However, in the tournaments, you don’t need a few million dollars to enter the game, but you might as well get out of the table a millionaire.
Other such poker tournaments include the international tournaments that act as the ‘world cup’ for the poker community. We’re talking, of course, about the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour. These tournaments cost somewhere around $10,000 to enter, but the payouts, if you’re lucky enough to reach the final table, are around several million dollars. Talk about high stakes!
Online
Online high stake poker games are not that uncommon. Currently, the world has divided its most talented and skilled professional poker players into two distinct categories: live poker players, the ones that only play live tournaments and cash games, in casinos, the ones that need to look their opponents in the eye, the old school players, and online poker players, the new wave of players that have conquered the poker world over the past few years. An online poker player that could go head to head with a veteran, live poker player? That would have been unheard of just a few years ago, but now the two players are neck and neck in the struggle for the world’s best poker player.
And online poker rooms, the ones that have started the whole thing, have also started a cult which honors its most valuable players. Each website has great respect for its greatest players. Many of the largest online poker rooms in the world have entire professional poker player teams, which they sponsor in tournaments worldwide. The players, in return, represent them in those tournaments by wearing the website’s gear and apparel. Some, like the Full Tilt Poker pro’s, even log on two as much as 10 hours per week and play at the lower stakes, in order to teach beginners a thing or two about poker, and share from their experience.
And sites like Full Tilt Poker and Poker Stars – some of the most well known poker websites at the moment – have even dedicated special rooms in honor of their star players. So we now have:
- Ivey’s Room, a special VIP room hosted by Full Tilt Poker in honor of their very own Phil Ivey. Ivey is considered by many people as being the best all around player in activity today. What is certain is that he is on definitely a roll, with eight WSOP* wins in his career and another WPT* title under his belt. You can find Ivey’s special room from the Full Tilt Poker software. In Ivey’s Room there’s a minimum big blind of $100, but as for the maximum limit, the sky is the limit. If you have the cash to play there, apart from Phil Ivey himself you can play against some of the other Full Tilt Poker Pros, which are regulars there.
- Daniel’s Room, Poker Stars’ very own VIP room, dedicated for their star player, Daniel Negreanu. Daniel’s Room is as exclusive as Ivey’s Room, with the largest table being the $100/$200, with a $50 ante. If you’re lucky enough, you can even play against Daniel Negreanu, or one of the other Poker Stars pros that regularly log on.
Both Online and Offline
This category of high stakes poker has appeared since 2003, when the market literally exploded with ‘demand’, so to say. As we’ve said, one of the highest stakes offline games are the WSOP* and WPT events. With Chris Moneymaker’s notorious win back in 2003, when he managed to turn a $30 online satellite in almost $3 million after he had won the WSOP* main event, everybody started to play and hope they’d win a satellite.
That’s why the online satellites deserve a spot on our list. With some of them even being free, you can actually spend nothing and get a few million dollars. It’s as easy as it gets!
